On December 17 our island was rocked by Super Typhoon Odette -- and while we were 35 miles from the eye of the storm -- it still took our town 4 weeks to get power back to all our neighbors and chainsaw crews are still overbooked clearing all the felled trees.

Over the past few weeks, we have seen this community come together in a huge way -- with everyone pitching in however they can to help known and unknown neighbors to the north rebuild.  Cooking meals, transporting water, donating clothes & supplies, raising funds...

As a bamboo construction company -- we could not miss this opportunity to lend a hand in building back better.  We have spent the last few weeks meeting with community organizers, government officials, and reading up on past rebuilding efforts to study what works/doesn't.  Today we are happy to share our Starter House/Shelter Kit design which makes use of pre-fabricated treated bamboo wall and roof panels to help homeowners rebuild safer, more durable homes.

Over the next few weeks we will be fundraising to cover material costs for five of these kits so that when we host a training for homeowners rebuilding -- they can "Build One, Get One".  After participating in a half day training in proper installation -- a homeowner will be able to leave with all the materials needed to rebuild their home for the equivalent of about $1,000.

You may remember our Fund-A-Bed campaign from two years ago -- a wildly successful fundraiser that made it possible for us to build and donate 90 beds for quarantine facilities around our island -- as well as stay open and operating during an incredibly uncertain time.  I think it is truly awesome to see how much more we can accomplish when we only think to ask for help.
